Our vision is to create a world where music therapy is an accessible, valued, and integral part of wellness. We envision a North Shore community where individuals of all identities and abilities feel supported, understood, and uplifted through meaningful music experiences. By integrating evidence-based practices with authentic human connection, we aim to promote a culture of compassion, creativity, and emotional well being.
Who We Are
Heartsong Music Therapy LLC was founded on the belief that music holds a unique and profound ability to heal, connect, and transform. Rooted in evidence-based practices and guided by empathy, our work centers on helping individuals of all ages and abilities to use music as a tool for growth, emotional expression, and overall wellness.
Our Approach
We believe music is one of the deepest expressions of what it means to b e human. It can soothe, energize, empower, and reveal parts of ourselves that words alone sometimes cannot reach. In our sessions, we combine clinical expertise with creativity–integrating research-backed techniques, therapeutic musical experiences, and a person-centered approach. Whether we are supporting someone through a challenging life transition, promoting developmental growth, or fostering emotional regulation, our goal is always to meet each individual where they are with compassion and intention.
About the Founder
Sara Ragan, MMT, MT-BC, brings together a lifelong passion for music with a deep commitment to supporting people in meaningful ways. After earning a psychology degree from Luther College, Sara spent many years working with children with diverse abilities, including ASD, (autism spectrum disorder), and individuals with developmental and behavioral needs. Through this work, she witnessed firsthand how music can open doors to communication, emotional expression and connection.
She later earned her Master’s of Music Therapy degree from Augsburg University, where she strengthened her clinical skills and expanded her understanding of music’s therapeutic impact across the lifespan. Her professional path has included teaching music lessons to youth, teens and adults, facilitating music groups, and providing music therapy in a wide range of settings–hospitals, schools, after-school programs, mental health programs, hospice care, and cancer centers.
These varied experiences have shaped her warm, intuitive, and person-centered approach. She believes deeply in music’s ability to help individuals tap into resilience, build stronger relationships, and experience personal growth. Her work is guided by empathy, respect, and the belief that every person carries an innate capacity for healing and connection.
